Unlike most of New York, Cold Spring Harbor is a quiet and calm place to live or visit away from the city. Residents of the village are friendly and welcoming, and the village is home to Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory, one of the top academic research institutions in America. People love to shop, dine, and visit historical landmarks throughout the village. 

Dining, Entertainment & Shopping

Cold Spring Harbor may be small, but that doesn't mean there's nothing to do. Residents and tourists alike love visiting all the places to dine, shop, and find entertainment in the village. 
 
Grasso's is one of the fantastic Italian restaurants in Cold Spring Harbor. There's live music every week and a dinner menu that changes depending on the season. Another New American restaurant in the village is Harbor Mist. This restaurant is seafood-focused, but you can also opt for steak and Italian food.
 
Seafood is a popular food option in Cold Spring Harbor, and Sandbar takes advantage of that by serving delicious seafood entrees to all its customers. You can also get pub food here, so you still have plenty of options if seafood isn't your favorite. Events are also hosted at Sandbar often, so be sure to drop by to attend one!
 
The Gourmet Whaler serves breakfast and lunch to residents of the Cold Spring Harbor Area every day. There isn't a certain style of food they serve, but most entrees are things you can find at just about any restaurant with their own twist, of course. Whether you're in the mood for some fish tacos or a BLT, the Gourmet Whaler has it all. For another Italian option for food, visit Joanina. With a lengthy wine list and a wood-fired oven, this restaurant won't disappoint its customers. 

Things to Do

If you're in Cold Spring Harbor, you'll need to check out the Whaling Museum. It's a great place to learn more about the history of Cold Spring Harbor! Another place to visit if you're interested in fish or fishing is the Fish Hatchery. It's a kid-friendly learning center for families to visit and learn about the area's different types of aquatic life. You can also see the outdoor ponds to feed fish or go fishing for trout. Don't forget to check out the freshwater aquarium here too.
 
There are a lot of hiking trails to visit in Cold Spring Harbor. Get a little exercise now and then by checking them out! It's an excellent opportunity to see the beautiful scenery of the village.
 
The DNA Center is a genetics learning center — the first science center ever to be devoted to learning about genetics. This learning center is a popular place for residents, tourists, schools, and all-around curious people to visit.
